Life Transitions Therapy Online

Change can take you for a ride — even when it is expected, carefully planned, or something you wanted.

A new relationship, a move, a career change, becoming a parent, a separation, a loss, an illness, or a new chapter of life can stir up much more than you expected. You may feel anxious, disoriented, sad, ashamed, restless, or unsure why you are not feeling the way you think you “should” feel.

From the outside, you may look like you’re managing. Inside, you may feel like you’re falling apart, or quietly wondering why this transition feels so hard.

Good Changes Can Still Be Hard

Some transitions are chosen or even celebrated — a promotion, a move, a marriage, a new baby, a new relationship, a long-awaited opportunity.

And yet, you may still feel insecure, overwhelmed, lonely, or confused.

You might hide your doubts because you fear being judged. You may tell yourself you should be grateful, excited, or stronger than this. But even positive change can bring grief, uncertainty, and a loss of the life or identity you had before.

Unwanted Changes Can Shake Your World

Other transitions arrive without your consent — the death of someone you love, a divorce, a breakup, a health diagnosis, a job loss, a relocation you did not choose, or the end of a dream you had built your life around.

These kinds of changes can leave you feeling shocked, off-balance, angry, numb, or unable to imagine what comes next.

Often, you are not only grieving what happened. You may also be grieving the hopes, plans, roles, routines, and assumptions that were attached to the life you thought you were living.

Life Transitions May Include

  • beginning or ending a relationship

  • marriage, separation, or divorce

  • becoming a parent or adjusting to parenthood

  • moving, relocation, immigration, or repatriation

  • career changes, burnout, or professional reinvention

  • midlife questions or a new life stage

  • grief and loss

  • health changes or serious illness

  • leaving home, going to college, or launching into adulthood

  • changes in family roles, caregiving, or identity

  • feeling between worlds, cultures, homes, or versions of yourself

Therapy During Life Transitions

Therapy can offer a space to slow down and make sense of what this change is bringing up for you.

Together, we may explore what you are leaving behind, what you are moving toward, what feels uncertain, and what parts of you are resisting, grieving, adapting, or trying to protect you.

My approach is warm, collaborative, and integrative. Depending on your needs, our work may draw from psychodynamic therapy, somatic therapy, EMDR, parts work, and polyvagal-informed approaches. This means we may pay attention not only to the story of the transition, but also to how your body, nervous system, relationships, and sense of self are responding.

The goal is not to force yourself to “move on” before you are ready. It is to understand where you are, support what needs care, and begin finding your footing in a life that may look different than it did before.

When You Feel Stuck in the In-Between

Transitions often include an ending, an uncertain middle, and a new beginning. But they do not always happen in a neat order.

Sometimes you know something has ended, but the new beginning has not arrived yet. Sometimes you are supposed to be happy, but you feel lost. Sometimes you are trying to move forward, but part of you is still holding onto what was.

That in-between place can feel lonely, confusing, and hard to explain to others.

Therapy can help you stay with that uncertainty without having to rush past it, minimize it, or figure everything out immediately.
